Edward Albee var medlem af the Dramatists Guild Council og formand for the Edward F. Albee Foundation. I 1980 blev han tildelt the Gold Medal in Drama fra the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. I 1996 modtog han the Kennedy Center Honors og the National Medal of Arts. I 2005 blev han hædret med en særlig Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement.
